Observation details
Flock soaring high, calling. Large swift all dark. I examined them through Zeiss binoculars while the flock was closer to me than when I took photos, and none had any sign of a white collar. Additionally: 1) their heads were smaller and wings straighter than White-collared; 2) their tails were unforked or only slightly forked; and 3) as can be seen on the second photo (closeup), some birds showed a paler gray head and neck compared to body, whereas WCSW would have a head as dark as body. For a reference for field marks 1 + 2, consult the most recent guide for the region: Kirwan, G., A. Levesque, M. Oberle, and C. Sharpe. 2019. Birds of the West Indies.
