Observation details
Completely surprised to hear one tooting quite heartily at 2:20 in the afternoon on a bright sunny day. At first I thought it might be a man-made sound. Was able to track down as it was very vocal and RBNUs were harassing it also. By the time I found it, Nuthatches, Chickadees, Kinglets & Downy woodpeckers were harassing it, for about 5 min. Then they left it to itself. It would seemingly sleep a little, then do some faint calls, then sleep. Watched for 45 min til it flew off. I may have heard a second respond briefly to this bird, but not positive. Resumed hearty tooting again not too far off in woods.
