Observation details
Seen only from directly below. About 1/3 longer than nearby Audubon's Warbler, base of tail narrower than end of tail, underside of tail dark. Bill a very wide equilateral triangle as seen from below. Vent white, distinguishable from slightly buffy breast with stripes extending from (but not including) vent all the way to the bill, ending in finer stripes through the white throat area. Black wings with white wing bars. The calls on recording "calls 1" match (to my ear) the californicus subspecies of Purple Finch on xeno-canto.org.
