Observation details
Reported a few days ago. Before the time on this checklist, arrived at the marina and almost immediately saw a VERY light gull land on the boathouse across the river next to the Hawthorne bridge. Scoped views made a very good case for GLGU--large size, very white, pinkish orange heavyish bill with black on the tip and bubblegum pink legs. Drove over to get closer looks only to see it fly across the river right to where we had been minute before! Drove back across the river and were rewarded with diagnostic close views. As mentioned earlier--large, silky looking, very white bird. Moderately heavy off-pinkish bill with black that extended from nearly the tip (there was a little that was bare at the tip) about 1/4 way up the bill--not small bill like ICGU, Bubblegum pinkish legs--not bright. Pretty broad flat head--not rounded. Did not see iris color. When it flew, long wings, almost transluscent tail feathers, a hint dirty colors on undersides. I think the combination of field marks described rules out ICGU. I will add photos, that while not great, show some important field marks.
