Observation details
Located early this morning in shallow water and mudflats in front of Dobbins Farm silos on Fred Dobbins Road. Identification made by following characteristics: 9-10 inches in length; pale gray back with dark gray cap; dull yellow legs; clear, unstreaked white underparts; a fine, straight needle-like bill; bill slightly longer than length of head; blackish gray line running back from eye; and sloping forehead. On top of these characteristics, the pasture, mudflat, and shallow water of the area in which I located the bird seem to be compatible with the habitat description for the Wilson's Phalarope provided by Sibley: "Common on shallow ponds within grassy marshes."
