Observation details
Males calling from elevated perches in grassland. Rufous-naped Larks (Mirafra africana) are common throughout the grassland in the Rietvlei Nature Reserve. Males like this one are often seen perched on the top of shrubs or dead wood, making their plaintive call and their wing-flapping display.
