Observation details
continuing since 3/4/2020. Greg Jackson with AOS arrived this morning to search for Kingbird. within 5 minutes of us searching, Couch's Kingbird flew out of Cedar trees at bass lake's edge. we both took pictures, & Greg set up his scope for closer viewing. pictures show shorter, heavier bill which is indicative of Couch's. additional pictures show more greenish back, which is also indicative of Couch's vs. Tropical. watched it for around 1 hour. at times it flew a pattern across lake from lake dam to deciduous oak tree in my backyard. when we followed it to oak tree, Greg played back both Tropical Kingbird calls (to which it did not react) & Couch's Kingbird calls. when played Couch's calls, bird flew from Oak tree over our heads in erratic manner. Kingbird landed further away, & then called back for over 5 minutes in identical call to recorded Couch's call. Greg tried to record call, but wasn't able to record clear call due to excessive wind this morning.
