Observation details
The second bird was a surprise! We have a pair!! Leor Veleanu first alerted us to the presence of one barred owl, so we headed over. As we were watching it a second bird, not visible from the trail, flew toward some pines on private property across Wiss. Ave. and the one (photographed) soon followed. Both flew further toward N. Mt Pleasant and (85% sure) into dense evergreens (also on private property). Apparently some non-birders have been hearing one in Carpenter's for several days. I suspect the second bird is a recent arrival. Later observers reported that both birds returned to the spot across wiss. ave. from where they were first sighted. Hopefully they'll stay and be Phila's first breeding barred owls!
