Observation details
unprecedented flock; first state record for this form; largest group of this form for New England; first found c. 2/16 at Little Pond in Litchfield; also at nearby Bantam L.; first found at this location yesterday, 2/27; at first mixed in with Canadas but during my time watching these coalesced into a single species group or 32, with a group of 3 about 30 yards away; ID'd in consultation with a group of experts using plumage as well as bill characters - mainly pink or pale orange bills, especially at the base, contrasting with orange legs, thinner, less chocolate brown necks and head, thinner necks, broader whitish fringing on the upper parts versus narrow and clearly gray, and broad white flank stripe.
