Observation details
A perched and singing medium gray thrasher with contrasting malar stripes (visible in the field but not well in the photos), long tail, intense rusty red undertail coverts and long, noticeably thin, very decurved bill, more so than LeConte's or California Thrasher. Pale eye not visible in the field or in photos. ID photos and recording. We first heard a thrasher singing to the northeast of the settling pond about 9:15am and then spotted the bird on the top of a large mesquite snag some distance away. At one point it flew down and joined another thrasher on the ground before both ran under the sage brush. One bird returned to a nearby mesquite perch for the next 30 minutes or so.
