NOTES: (No. of Animals/Sex: 1-2 adults, male, female. Breeding Status: Territorial paired? Gen. Climate: Dry. Cover Density: Sparse.) Pair feeding, maintaining contact. One (or both) birds calling--more likely one. Birds stayed quite close together and loud chip note was given whenever one bird moved farther away. Average distance between the two was about 2 m. BNA: Call Notes are heard (chip). CZ 18/03/2004. [These are the contact calls that one often hears from this species (not including the sharp "churp," which was not given by this species - though I'm not sure what it was given by (maybe Picoides scalaris?)). Quality changed from 3 to 3-2 - CAM - 9 February 2005]. Habitat: Deciduous Forest, Desert, Scrub.
