Shorter mew call after it was seen flying to closer Arundo.
Observation details
Called ("mew" call) at 10am for about a minute from deep inside thick Arundo across the stream from the previously-described concrete culvert at GPS 34.087550,-117.84162. At 10:20 started calling from a berry-laden Toyon on the steep slope opposite the culvert, still unseen, and then we saw it fly from the Toyon to the Arundo on the near side of the stream. In flight, an all slate-grey bird about the size of a Towhee, with a long tail; too brief of a look to see the black cap or rufous vent. It called again a few times (a shorter version of the "mew" call) from the closer Arundo and then became silent. (It was also seen and heard briefly by a birder at about 840am but far enough downstream that none of the rest of us got there before it had disappeared.) Audio recordings.
