Observation details
Photo depicts over half of the 60 magnificent frigatebirds hoovering like kites facing the open ocean while maintaining their position over the trail that extends between the parking lot and the lighthouse on Sanibel Island. These birds were holding their position in a horizontal plane. Took multiple photos and watched the birds for the entire time we were at this site. Every so often one of the original 60 birds would peel off and fly back towards the bay. Towards the end of the observation period there were only 11 birds remaining overhead. A brown pelican flew into the group of remaining frigatebirds and began sailing with them and it eventually peeled off sailing off toward the bay. The remaining eleven magnificent frigatebirds peeled off one by one and followed the pelican towards the bay.
