Observation details
First seen by Dan Ashdown. Single bird with completely white head feeding on mud flats - this plumage indicates an adult male. Lacked black on nape of adult Pied Stilt or browner wings and pale fringes to primaries and coverts that show on juvenile/immature Pied Stilt which do have white heads. Also lacked broad white mantle and back of basic plumaged and juvenile Banded Stilt. Believed to be the first record for Australasia (no records in either Pratt & Beehler or Gregory field guides to New Guinea birds.)
