Observation details
Juvenile, found by Peter Burke. Tern sp. noticeably smaller than Bonaparte's Gulls. Quick moves during flight, up and down, often rolling over sideways, and occasionally diving. Uppersides of wings very pale gray except for medium gray carpal bar and medium gray primary tips. White secondaries. Undersides of wings appeared entirely white through scope, but one photo shows a very thin dark edge on the primaries. Short bill. Possibly some red/orange color seen at the base of the otherwise black bill, but I can't be sure. Tail forked but short, characteristic of juvenile.
