Media notes
Heavy bill consistent with Brandt's though the tan chin patch was almost absent.
Observation details
I found an all dark cormorant swimming along the edge of the riprap at the lookout point past the footbridge. I initially thought it was the Pelagic Cormorant known to be in the reserve over the last two months. While watching it I thought the bill seemed a bit thick and heavy for a Pelagic though I could not see any tan chin patch. When I later examined my photos of the bird I could make out an indistinct and weak tan patch at the chin and a comparatively heavy bill that grew slightly thicker toward the base. Common along nearby coastal areas, a Brandt's is an unusual bird for the marsh. Photos.
