Observation details
Now this was absolutely JAW-DROPPING!! I was scanning the flock on the little islands, Stint after Stint after Sharpie... and there, fast asleep at the waters edge was what I instantly recognised to be a Wood Sandpiper!! The fine, straight bill... the bronzed back spotted with white... the long yellow legs and white brow... it was a WOOD SANDPIPER ON A BEACH!!! Now this is something I've NEVER heard of before of this wraith of the marshlands!!! What's more, when it woke up, it was perfectly happy to trot back and forth on tiny strides for those long, long legs, lunging down to grab morsels as large as a small fish! I wasn't expecting this at all, let alone on a beach!!
