Observation details
Not exact location of bird but nearby. On private property. One individual from what I could tell after following it around for about five minutes trying to get a recording of its call. Classic “tri-ri-rip” flight call that I am very familiar with, as I have found small flocks of this species in SLO County before. One flock was found just to the south of this location in Cholame Valley a few years back (https://ebird.org/checklist/S43263377). The bird was observed in flight a few times. Compared to the AMPI it was with it had a noticeably shorter tail with more extensive white in the outer tail feathers. In mixed flock consisting mostly of HOLA and AMPI, as also heard in the recordings (mostly just HOLA, though). Headphones are recommended when listening to the recording as all I had was my phone, and it was a little windy.
