Observation details
Continuing, in the ivy-filled brushy area adjacent to the bend in the stairs next to the waterfall. As you get up the first flight of stair look straight ahead and you should see a fallen log a few yards beyond the railing. The bird seems to be staying in the general vicinity of that log As I came up to the location I noticed two small birds hopping around in the oaks above the ivies. One was a common yellowthroat but the other was a small dark bird with a pale throat too distant for my camera to focus on. Both birds eventually went out of view I waited a bit to see if I could get a closer shot but then about 5 minutes later I heard a repeated chipping call identical to that of other birders' recordings of what is presumably the same bird. I was able to record this sequence easily since the bird kept calling for a good 2-3 minutes until a horde of schoolkids came up the stairs which made it stop. Edit: at around 10:45 another birder began playing callback, which immediately provoked a response. The bird steadily got close and closer until at one point it was practically at arms-length away from me, but still in cover. Got good views but the bird was too skittish to get a photo of
