Observation details
Seen three times and presumed to all be the same individual: flying S at 11:00, NW at 12:58, and S at 13:40. Dark brown shearwater with long, narrow, pointed wings flying with distinctive flight style consisting of rapid flapping followed by gliding. The first time I saw it it was flying into the wind and would flap very quickly 8-15 times followed by very short glides. The other times I think was mostly flying with the wind and would only flap 4-6 times followed by longer glides and a couple very shallow arcs. The first two sightings were relatively close, clearly in King Co, and allowing fairly careful study. The third time it was well past the yellow buoy, in Kitsap Co. Mostly the underwings looked fairly uniformly dark but there were a few times when the light was right that I was able to see some faint silvery coloration that clearly extended into the primaries.
