Observation details
We began observing this at our suet feeder. My husband took pictures of it considering we had never seen it before. I couldn't identify it so sent it to the BirdChat listserv and to the Facebook "Birds of Alaska" page. It was immediately identified as a female Black-headed Grosbeak, WAY out of range. Others on FB confirmed it based on beak, mostly. I had it confirmed that it was not a Rose breasted Grosbeak. It stayed mainly at the suet feeders for about 3-days, then went to the sunflower seed feeder and competed with her cousins Pine Grosbeaks. She did very well, didn't look sick at all.
