Observation details
Continuing with Bonaparte's Gulls. Basic plumage adult. Similar to basic plumage adult Bonaparte's Gull, but noticably larger in direct comparison and with a paler back than Bonaparte's. Dark red bill, but red on bill was obvious only in good light; the bird was much easier to pick out of the flock by size and paler overall color than by bill color. In flight, underside of inner primaries dark, contrasting with white outer primaries. Flew into the harbor at 650am and stayed for less than a minute before flying back out. Flew into the harbor again at 920am and stayed for about 5 minutes before flying back out. Presumably when it was not in the harbor it was out in the Sea with the hordes of Bonaparte's Gulls but we never located it there while scanning. Photos.
