Observation details
Mostly single birds seen through the observation period but one one time third individuals seen at the one time. Most birds seen well and some coming to feed at the back of the boat as close as 5m. Photographs taken by all of the observers and all proved to be Cook's Petrel. "Cookalarias" with clean white. Underwing mostly pure white with narrow dark trailing edge and short, mostly broken carpal bar. Prominent white supercilium on most birds. Head pale grey but appearing darker in some photos but due to lighting. Pycroft's Petrel the most similar ID contender but prominent supercilium apparent in photos and longer necked than Pycroft's. These observations combined with other of Cook's Petrel over the 5th and 6th of October (totallling 20 birds) have bee included in a submission to BARC prepared by Paul Walbridge.
