Observation details
For three successive evenings, I have spent time at dusk hiding in a woodshed to be near to this owl's nest box, trying for a recording. Tonight, he (assuming a male) outdid himself with a variety of trilling speeds despite the distraction of a very close Winter Wren. The recording program I used is Voice Record Pro from the App store and installed on my iPhone6S. The program was suggested by the people at eBird as a "better" alternative to the built-in recording program that came with the phone. The Voice Record Pro has had from the start a good deal of background static so that anymore, I rarely record bird sounds which I used to enjoy. That static is unfortunately very evident in this recording. Certainly, this can't be a better alternative to what I got for free with the phone. Tonight, I discovered that, for large files, the app is emailing my recordings to some unknown location. Until I figure out where that is, all I can say is DO NOT BUY THIS APP regardless of what eBird wants. Sound file now attached
