Media notes
Recorded on iPhone - much background noise. Edited in Audacity - copying only two instances of the bird's calling. Volume increased.
Observation details
Single bird flew in landing in branches above my head. Seen from side on, matches shape and colouration of immature Crimson Chat illustration in Morcombe app or juvenile / non-breeding female in Australian Bird Guide book (2017). Bird flew to a stand of poplar trees perhaps 20m away, then to another larger tree before moving on. It called from all places it had perched, several times - a call which I described at the time as "Tsee tsee tseee Choo - and then the watery sound of brown Thornbill". The start of the call matches the Morcombe app's first call, from 6 seconds onward but there was an additional note before the trill and the trill was of slightly different quality - closer to the app's second call. The only similarly sized birds that might be contenders would be Buff-rumped Thornbill, Western Gerygone and immature White-fronted Chat - all excluded by the bird's call/song. Audio recording taken.
