Observation details
Two swallow tailed kites had been reported heading West from Hammonasset by Gina Nichol at 9:45am. Due to the significant North wind present I figured that they might be hugging the coast. I arrived at Lighthouse point and waited at the hawkwatch site. At 11:35am two Swallow-tailed Kites flew in from the east and passed to the north of me over the treeline. The birds then headed west over the harbor. The birds were seen well and photos obtained. Unmistakable birds with white head, bodies, and underwing coverts. Black primaries and secondaries. Deeply forked black tail. One bird was later seen by Chris Harrison near the Hill Farm Preschool in Fairfield (A few miles inland). Two birds were then seen at 1:58 at Cove Island by Patrick Dugan
