Observation details
Roosting on water within flock of Great Shearwaters. Lifted off as we were inspecting the group and John Shemilt managed to fire off a bunch of useful photographs, two of which are attached. The initial in-the-field impression was that of a Parasitic but further study of a suite of images supports Pomarine Jaeger. At least 6-7 white primary shafts showing on the upper wing. Very broad arms, which seem broader than the hands, supportive of POJA. Disorganized tail covert barring and underwing markings. Overall weight and size seemed comparable to that of the Great Shearwaters in which it was roosting with. This bird appears to have shed P1 and T1 along with its underwing coverts.
