Observation details
LIFER - 1st Lee County record. Seen at low tide on outer sand bank (gulf side) about 100 yards from tip. Initial thought was Bonaparte's Gull. But having just seen hundreds of Bo Gu at Salton Sea last week - none match this bird's bright red legs and reddish bill. Suggestion of black hood can be seen on head. Bo Gu would show black bill, pinkish legs and mostly white under wing tips with black edging. The bright red legs, red bill with black tip and blackish under wing tips are typical of BH Gu. The white streaking on black primaries excludes Brown-headed Gull. Comparative photos of Bo Gu on Sanibel in 2018 can be seen at : https://ebird.org/checklist/S43216487
