Observation details
Leader's list had two unidentified Leach's Storm-Petrels. I (RPO) identified one of those as Townsend's on the basis of photos (12:16 PM) showing long white rump, more than half of tail length (rather than about half of tail length of nominate Leach's), along with small compact body shape and prominent carpal bar reaching front edge of wing (ruling out Wilson's). Rare pale-rumped Chapman's wouldn't have rump this bright. Wedge-rumped Storm-Petrel eliminated mostly by probability and range, but also by apparently long tail fork of this bird and by white rump not reaching close enough to tail tip. I am new to identifying Leach's subspecies, and would appreciate correction if this assessment seems to be in error.
