Observation details
Reserve 1st - one dropped onto No 3 with a pair of Greylags, then flew south-east c30 minutes later. Dark rump and dark back and paler outer wing gave the classic contrasting appearance in flight, also dark tail noted. The thickset bill and 'grinning' patch obvious when viewed on deck, as were the dark mantle feathers with distinct fringing. Also 3 probables flew south, however misty conditions meant they were only seen briefly and couldn't be confirmed. They sounded good (somewhere between a Pinkfoot and a Greylag), and on brief views looked thickset.
