Foraging, jumping from tree to tree, mainly among the stubby red pine trees; generally 1.5-3 m from the ground. Location adjacent to the pebble beach (salt water) at road end at the Northwest Arm; residences on both sides of the road; water pump station sounds may be heard. Gloriously sunny winter day with minorl NW wind, approximately -12C. Two sections of recordingof same bird linked. 2020-Jan-21, Halifax, NS Canada
Observation details
Female, vocalizing. Red cap, black supercilium, white above black eyeline, white moustache that extends to neck, joining white throat line. White chine. Black malar that also divides chin from throat. Striped back and front, black on yellow. Black wings. Narrower bill than Hairy, without the knob at face. In red pines by water, hopping from tree to tree. Phone photos and sound to come.
