Media notes
Three Little Crow chicks peer out from their wheel rim nest. Little Crows (Corvus bennetti) are widespread throughout Australia, but are more common is arid and semi-arid areas. There is often a shortage of suitable nest sites in arid areas that lack tall trees in most of the landscape, so man-made structures are often used. A new powerline was installed along the Blowholes Road, north of Carnarvon in Western Australia several years ago. The thoughtful powerline crew installed old steel wheel rims on several poles to provide secure nesting sites for birds. The wheel rim nest bowls are used mostly by Nankeen Kestrels, and in this case Little Crows. The three chicks watched us as we videoed them from the far side of the road in very windy conditions. Elevation: 0 m. Date added to IBC: September 10, 2019.
