Media notes
An African Buffalo bats an annoying Red-billed Oxpecker away with its ear. Red-billed Oxpeckers (Buphagus erythrorynchus) are usually found associated with large herbivores such as this African Savanna Buffalo (Syncerus caffer). The Oxpeckers feed on ectoparasites such as ticks, and also drink blood from open wounds. Although their hosts benefit from the removal of parasites by the Oxpeckers, they often find them annoying, as this dozing Buffalo obviously did as it batted the bird away from its ear. Elevation: 287 m. Date added to IBC: August 11, 2019.
