An adult Red-billed Oxpecker perched on shrub, preening. Red-billed Oxpeckers (Buphagus erythrorynchus) are common in Kruger Park, but near-threatened elsewhere. They are always associated with wild ungulates or domestic stock, from which they glean ectoparasites, but they also take blood from open wounds and mucus. This adult Red-billed Oxpecker was perched in a Salvadora bush, preening on the Mphongolo Loop, Kruger National Park. Elevation: 287 m. Date added to IBC: July 31, 2019.
