Nest/Brood Parasitism: Female Hooded Oriole is feeding a fledgling Brown-headed Cowbird. Normally, orioles drink nectar and.....eat insects. Her family has already migrated south this year--she is staying to feed this fledgling. This adult Hooded Oriole is tirelessly feeding this Brown-headed Cowbird. In addition to suet, she is collecting insects and feeding those too. The cowbird can feed itself and begs from other birds also. The oriole's family has migrated south a few days ago. We have never seen this before with a Hooded Oriole. Elevation: 132 m. Date added to IBC: June 23, 2016.
