Media notes
A male Western Rosella eating Cape Weed seed heads. The Western Rosella (Platycercus icterotis) is the smallest species in the Rosella group of Australian parrots, and is endemic to south-western Western Australia. Despite their bright colouration, male Western Rosellas are often hard to see and to photograph because they are usually quiet, and do not draw attention to themselves. This beautiful male is an exception – in urban areas Western Rosellas often become tame, and allow a close approach. This male Western Rosella was feeding on an urban lawn in the suburb of Middleton Beach, in Albany on the south coast of Western Australia, eating the seed heads of the introduced daisy known as Cape Weed, Arctotheca calendula. Elevation: 30 m. Date added to IBC: October 8, 2019.
