A Hoary-headed Grebe swimming then diving. The Hoary-headed Grebe (Poliocephalus poliocephalus) is widely distributed across Australia but is generally absent from arid areas. It is found singly, in pairs and in sometimes in large aggregations in quiet estuaries and coastal bays, salt lakes, freshwater lakes and reservoirs with open water surfaces. Hoary-headed Grebes feed mainly on small invertebrates usually caught by diving. This Hoary-headed Grebewas fishing on the eutrophic Lake Monger in Perth, Western Australia. Elevation: 13 m. Date added to IBC: November 1, 2018.
