An Australian Laughing Kookaburra perching - hoping to steal from our picnic table. The Laughing Kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae) is a very large, terrestrial kingfisher that is native to eastern Australia and has been introduced to Western Australia and Tasmania. It is famous for its raucous ‘laughing’ call. Laughing Kookaburras mostly prey on insects, worms and other invertebrates but they also take small reptiles, frogs, mammals and birds. In addition, they are not averse to stealing food from barbeques and picnic tables if the opportunity presents itself. This bird was hoping to steal food from our picnic table in Yanchep National Park north of Perth, Western Australia. Elevation: 28 m. Date added to IBC: June 25, 2018.
