A White-winged Coot swimming and feeding. The White-winged Coot (Fulica leucoptera) occurs widely in southern and central South America, from Bolivia and Paraguay through Chile and Argentina to Tierra del Fuego. This Coot is found in a variety of freshwater habitats and eats mostly aquatic weeds. This White-winged Coot was swimming and feeding on filamentous algae in the Laguna los Palos on the edge of the very busy main road, Route 9 in southern Chile. Elevation: 18 m.
