Media notes
A subadult Silver Gull hunting by stirring the sand with its feet. The Silver Gull (Larus novaehollandiae) is the most commonly seen shorebird in Australia, and is also found in New Zealand and New Caledonia. They are not strictly marine, and occur in almost any habitat that contains water. Silver Gulls are well-adapted to human settlements, successfully scavenging food from refuse sites, picnic areas and shopping areas. This subadult Silver Gull was energetically stirring the water and sediment in the shallows of Wellstead Estuary with its feet, then picking up and swallowing the tiny invertebrates it exposed. Elevation: 0 m. Date added to IBC: March 13, 2019.
