A Sooty and a Pied Oystercatcher feeding together on the Wellstead estuary sandbar. Sooty Oystercatchers (Haematopus fuliginosus)are found on the coasts of western, southern and Eastern Australia. They are most commonly seen on coastal rocks, but sometimes feed on sandy beaches and mudflats in estuaries. Wellstead Estuary at Bremer Bay on the south coast of Western Australia hosts both Australian Oystercatcher species –Sooty and Pied Oystercatchers were feeding together on the sandbar that separates the estuary from the Southern Ocean.
