Media notes
A female Torrent Duck entering the Rio Paine, then climbing back onto a rock. The extraordinary South American Torrent Duck (Merganetta armata) lives in fast flowing streams with steep gradients. Torrent Ducks mainly eat invertebrates, including insect larvae, crustaceans and molluscs. This female Torrent Duck was perched on a rock in the raging Rio Paine in southern Chile’s Torres del Paine National Park. She entered the water, presumably to hunt, and then climbed back on to the same rock a while later. Elevation: 1264 m. Date added to IBC: March 3, 2019.
