Media notes
A failed attempt at mating by a pair of Rock Shags. The Rock Shag (Leucocarbo magellanicus) breeds on ledges in Rocky Gulch on Bleaker Island. The steep walls of the cliff provide protection from most predators, except perhaps for Brown Skuas. The nests are made from a straw of Tussac leaves and cemented by cormorant dung. This pair had a nest, and the male attempted to mate while the female was sitting – apparently unsuccessfully. Elevation: 12 m. Date added to IBC: February 5, 2019.
