Media notes
A superb Lilac-breasted Roller perching. The beautiful Lilac-breasted Roller (Coracias caudatus) is a familiar sight in the dry woodlands of Southern Africa. Lilac-breasted Rollers are mainly insectivorous, and prey on a wide variety of large beetles, grasshoppers and crickets as well as taking small vertebrates. They normally sit in an exposed position scanning for prey. Once an item has been caught, Lilac-breasted Rollers often return to the same perch and bash hard prey on the perch to soften it. Elevation: 287 m. Date added to IBC: July 3, 2018.
