A female Blue-billed duck preening then diving. The Blue-billed Duck (Oxyura australis) is a small duck – the male has a bright blue bill, a black head and a rich chestnut body. The female is cryptically coloured blackish-brown and lacks the blue bill. Blue-billed Ducks are found in well-vegetated freshwater wetlands and dive rather than fly when disturbed. Elevation: 13 m.
