Media notes
Great Tinamou. While walking along the trail between the accommodation and the research centre at La Selva we heard the call of a Great Tinamou very close to the trail. We paused and stood motionless for a while, hoping that the bird might emerge from the forest... which it did after a few minutes! We enjoyed wonderful views of the bird feeding and crossing the track in front of us while it appeared completely unconcerned by our presence only 5-10 metres away. The previous day our guide Jorge discovered the nest shown here, probably belonging to this species, at the edge of the trail. There was no sign of any birds - perhaps the incubating bird had slipped away unnoticed as we approached. John Carlyon and Penny Meakin. Elevation: 45 m. Date added to IBC: July 11, 2018.
