Observation details
After initially finding this bird late the previous afternoon, I returned for further observation and photographs in better light to help confirm as to species. Bill color was now clearly yellow/orange with a black "nail". Head shape varied considerably between resting state--when it was completely consistent with Barrow's (steep forehead, crown peak forward of eye)--and when it was actively foraging/diving for food, during which it would compress its head feathers, giving it a profile more like a Common Goldeneye.
