Observation details
Continuing. Gray-green empid with 2 white wing bars, prominent eye ring wider behind eye. Squarish head, slightly contrasting darker cap and crest, small and narrow bill with orange-yellow lower mandible. Pale gray vest, very pale yellow belly. Long pointed primaries with long projection. Narrow, worn, notched tail. Heard its call first, then observed it gleaning insects using many methods, including picking from the surface of the water, hawking in flight, and picking from the leaves and branches of the trees as high as 20 feet up in canopy, usually landing in a new spot. Tail twitched slightly upward when perched. Very comfortable in front of the 20 or so birders on the boardwalk. Videos by Valentina Roumi
