Media notes
Wing whistles of nocturnal flyover Common Goldeneye as open water on a large southern Ontario lake would have been freezing over with the very cold temperatures, forcing them to head further south, possibly to Lake Ontario.
Observation details
Wing whistles heard flying southwards twice, about 17 minutes apart. Unknown number, so only recorded as two, but very likely more. Recording obtained of first flyover. Presumed that Lake Simcoe open areas were freezing over with the very cold temperature tonight, so may have been flying south in search of more open water. Temperature dropped from -15 C to -17.5 over the duration.
