Media notes
Wren-like scolding buzz, possibly in response to my pishing and whistling, which had brought in a sizeable flock of chickadees and kinglets into a nearby pine and bare deciduous tree.
Observation details
Rare; second county record, and presumably a first for the Columbia Hills – Klickitat Valley CBC. In pines with chickadee and kinglet flock in parking lot close to fish ladder. Stayed with the flock for the whole 10 or so minutes that we tracked it, allowing great views. Make a few low Bewick's Wren-like buzzes and a single too-part "whinny" call, but mostly silent. Stayed mid-height in short ponderosa pines and nearby bare deciduous trees. Slower-moving and more methodical than kinglet; slightly larger with white lores and thicker bill; thicker, all blue legs and feet; less black below wingbar. Diagnostic photos and recording obtained.
